Minister of Transport, Dr. Abdul Salam Saleh Humaid, participated at the head of our country’s delegation participating in the 33rd session of the General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at its headquarters in London, United Kingdom, during the period from November 27 to December 5, 2023.
Our country’s delegation included our country’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Yassin Saeed Noman, the Undersecretary for the Maritime and Ports Affairs Sector, Captain Ali Al-Subhi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of YASPC Engineer Salem Ali Basamer, Engineer Salem Basmir, the Director General of the Minister’s Office, Bassam Al-Muflhi, and the First Secretary at our country’s embassy in the Kingdom, Badr Dholi.
At the opening of the conference, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Mr. Kitack Lim, welcomed the attendees, including ministers, their excellencies, observers and remote participants, in his speech, reviewing the efforts made by the International Maritime Organization and what was achieved during the past two years, and highlighting the organization’s achievements during this period, including

The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization stressed the need to decarbonize and digitize shipping in the coming years, and the serious threats facing the planet Earth, its oceans, and humanity resulting from pollution, climate change, geopolitical instability, and the economic challenges imposed by high inflation, and the importance of shipping in facilitating global trade and transporting goods.
