A ministerial committee, mandated by the Minister of Transport, held an extensive meeting today at the Yemen Arabian Sea Ports Corporation (YASPC) headquarters in Mukalla to evaluate operational performance and discuss future development strategic projects.

The meeting was chaired by Captain Ali Mohammed Al-Subhi, Deputy Minister of Transport for Marine Affairs and Ports, in the presence of Eng. Salem Ali Basamer, Chairman of YASPC, his deputy Mr. Fwad Alrbaky, and Captain Yaslam Mubarak Bouamro, Deputy Chairman of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs.

Strategic Expansion and Infrastructure

Discussions focused on the corporation’s current status and strategic studies aimed at expanding Mukalla Port. The plans intend to bolster the port’s operational capacity to meet the growing demands of Hadhramaut and neighboring governorates.

Captain Al-Subhi commended the efforts of Transport Minister Dr. Abdulsalam Saleh Humaid and Hadhramaut Governor Mabkhout bin Pasti in supporting infrastructure development. He emphasized the necessity of coordination between the ministry and local authorities to overcome challenges and facilitate vital developmental projects.

Addressing Challenges

The committee addressed several logistical hurdles, most notably the project to relocate the "Fourth Fisheries Project" from within the port’s perimeter. Furthermore, technical studies conducted by specialized consultancy firms regarding port expansion were reviewed, alongside discussions on improving workflow and service delivery.

Investment and Stakeholder Engagement

As part of its mission, the ministerial committee is scheduled to hold expanded meetings with prominent traders and investors in Hadhramaut to explore public-private partnerships in the port sector. Additionally, sessions with shipping agencies will be held to streamline operations and ensure the continuity of efficient maritime and commercial activities.

Digital Transformation

The committee received a detailed technical presentation on the "Single Window" project, delivered by specialists from YASPC and "Transo Soft" for Programming and IT. The presentation highlighted efforts to digitize procedures and enhance system integration to improve transparency and efficiency.

Following the meeting, Eng. Salem Basamer led the committee on a field tour of the corporation’s headquarters, visiting the newly constructed administrative offices and the Maritime Training and Qualification Center.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Director-General of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Transport, technical advisors, and heads of YASPC's internal audit, projects, and berths departments.
