Employees and workers of the Yemen Arabian Sea Ports Corporation (YASPC) issued a vehement condemnation today following the abduction of Engineer Salem Ali Basamer, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Basamer was intercepted and kidnapped by unidentified entities near his residence in Mukalla, marking a dangerous precedent that threatens the security of national institutions and their leadership.
In an official statement, the workforce denounced the act as a "heinous and unethical crime," describing it as a flagrant violation of the rule of law and humanitarian values. The statement characterized the kidnapping as a desperate attempt to destabilize the region, incite fear, and disrupt the operations of a vital national service provider essential to the Yemeni economy.
The Corporation’s staff expressed their "unlimited solidarity" with Engineer Basamer and his family, holding the perpetrators and instigators fully responsible—both legally and morally—for his safety. They further demanded his immediate and unconditional release.
The statement concluded with an urgent appeal to security authorities to intensify efforts to track down the assailants and uncover the circumstances of the incident. It emphasized that such criminal acts, which jeopardize social peace and tarnish the province's reputation, must not go unpunished.
Reaffirming their commitment, the employees asserted that these intimidation tactics would not deter them from their duties. They pledged to remain united in support of their leadership and the Corporation’s national mission against any threats to its stability.
