Yemen’s Minister of Transport, H.E. Mohsen Haidara Al-Amri, met today with Mr. Fwad Alrbaky deputy Chairman of the board of directors of YASPC , to review the corporation’s operational progress and discuss major infrastructure upgrades across several key maritime hubs.
The meeting focused on technical and economic feasibility studies for strategic projects, including the Barum Port in Hadramout, Qana Port in Shabwah, and Qarma Port in the Socotra Archipelago. Discussions also covered the planned expansion of Mukalla Port and other modernization initiatives aimed at enhancing the corporation's logistical capacity.
Strategic Economic Growth Minister Al-Amri was briefed on the current maritime traffic at Mukalla Port, highlighting the incentives and facilities provided to shipping lines and importers. These measures are designed to bolster commercial activity, increase national revenue, and stimulate the local economy.
The Minister emphasized the urgency of accelerating vital projects, urging the activation of agreements and grants—whether self-funded or through international donors. He stressed the necessity of improving performance efficiency, transparency, and oversight across all port operations.
Safety and Security Mandates In response to a recent vessel fire at Socotra Port, Al-Amri issued immediate directives to provide advanced security and safety equipment for the facility. He underscored the critical importance of strengthening maritime safety protocols and activating rigorous inspection systems for incoming vessels and cargo to protect lives and property.
Commitment to Excellence Concluding the meeting, the Minister praised the efforts of the ASPC leadership and staff, calling for intensified efforts to meet the growing demands of the maritime transport sector. For his part, Vice Chairman Al-Rubaki expressed his appreciation for the Ministry’s ongoing support, reaffirming the Corporation’s commitment to executing development plans that serve the national economy.
The meeting was attended by Captain Ali Al-Subhi, Deputy Minister for Maritime Affairs and Ports; Dr. Zain Al-Zoum, Acting Director-General of Maritime Policies and Economics; and Hassan Al-Attas, Deputy Director of the Minister’s Office.
